Di seguito concludiamo la descrizione degli altari della nostra Basilica con l’altare dedicato a San Giovanni Battista e il Fonte Battesimale Parrocchiale.
Altare di San Giovanni Battista
È il primo altare della navata sinistra per chi entra in chiesa. Al centro si trova il fonte battesimale in calcare. Sull’altare la tela del Battesimo di Gesù da parte di San Giovanni Battista nel fiume Giordano. Di spalle al Cristo un angelo ha nelle mani un drappo in attesa di asciugare il Cristo. In alto la colomba dello Spirito Santo tra angeli e putti. La tela anonima, di buona fattura, è da riferire alla metà del Settecento. È stata sottoposta a restauro (2012-2013), affidato alla ditta Luciano Bombeccari di Scicli.
Saint John the Baptist altar
It’s the first altar on the left nave. In the centre there is the baptismal font made of limestone. Above the altar there is the painting about Jesus’ baptism by Saint John the Baptist in the Jordan river. An angel is standing behind Jesus and he is holding a cloth to dry Jesus after the baptism. On the top there is the dove of the holy spirit and there are also angels. The painting is anonymous and it was paint in the 18th century. It was renovated in 2012 by Luciano Bombeccari’s company from Scicli.
